The Walton County Board of County Commissioners have finalized the contract with C.W. Roberts Construction to begin building the county’s sports complex.

The park will be built on 34.62 acres located on the east end of U.S. Highway 98 and is projected to cost about $6.1 million to build. The county paid $2.4 million for the property.

The sports park will be constructed in phases.

Phase 1 will consist of all grading, bringing in more than 90,000-cubic yards of fill dirt, fencing, parking, sidewalks, irrigation, and everything needed to maintain the fields.

There will be three multi-use fields, three baseball fields, a playground, a two-story concession stand/scorers building with restrooms, and a smaller bathroom near the multi-use fields.

“We hope to begin construction within the next 30 days,” said Walton County Special Projects Manager Rick Wilson.

The contract with C.W. Roberts Contracting of Freeport was signed at the last meeting of the Walton County Board of County Commissioners. Once construction begins, contractors have 360 days to complete the project.

It will be up to the BCC how and when the additional phases are funded and added.
