General Manager of the Panama City Beach Sports Complex J.D. Wood Named to National Association of Sports Commissions’ (NASC) Board of Directors

Visit Panama City Beach is looking ahead to summer 2019 with great anticipation, with plans to open its world-class Panama City Beach Sports Complex managed by Sports Facilities Management (SFM). On May 7, SFM’s General Manager of the Panama City Beach Sports Complex J.D. Wood was selected to serve on the National Association of Sports Commissions’ (NASC) Board of Directors. As a member of the Board, Wood will play a vital role in delivering quality education, ample networking opportunities and exceptional event management and marketing know-how to NASC’s 800+ members.

“It is a great honor to serve on the NASC’s Board of Directors, an organization I have deeply valued throughout the course of my sports management career,” said Wood. “I look forward to serving the sports destinations, sports event owners and vendors to the industry, as well as learning valuable information to help catapult our soon-to-launch Panama City Beach Sports Complex.”

All NASC members were invited to apply for a position and/or suggest potential candidates for consideration by the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee was then charged with finding and soliciting quality applicants and selecting one for each of NASC’s eight Board of Director positions. All eight individuals selected were put forth in a general membership vote at the Membership Meeting which took place during the 27th NASC Symposium in Knoxville, TN on May 7.

Wood joined the Panama City Beach team in August 2018 after being selected from a nationwide search by SFM. Wood previously served as tourism manager of the City of College Station’s (Texas) Parks and Recreation department, Sports Sales and Service Manager for the Dallas Sports Commission and assistant lecturer for the Sports Management Department at Texas A&M University.
