WILDWOOD, Fla— Walton County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the graduation of Lieutenant Dustin Cosson from the Florida Leadership Academy, Class 45.

The academy is put on by the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute and graduated 40 first-line supervisors representing 24 criminal justice agencies throughout the state. All serve in leadership roles within their agency.

The graduates met for four week-long sessions at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in Wildwood, Florida. They learned the skills necessary to support the needs of their agencies and their communities as they prepare for future challenges.

Cosson was recently promoted to Lieutenant after serving as a Sergeant in the Criminal Investigation Bureau at the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

“This achievement shows Lieutenant Cosson’s commitment to our agency and to his community,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “We are so proud of his hard work.”

The goal of the Florida Leadership Academy is to prepare first-line supervisors in criminal justice organizations to exemplify the character and integrity expected of criminal justice professionals and to examine the various components necessary to be an efficient leader.

The Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute, which is housed within the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and affiliated with the State University System, was established in 1990 by the Florida Legislature to address the need for an innovative and multi-faceted approach to the education and training of criminal justice professionals.
