If you haven’t gotten in on this fun tradition, now’s your chance. Kick the year off right with the South Walton Fire District‘s fourth annual Polar Bear Plunge.

Last New Years Day, nearly 100 people jumped into the chilly Gulf of Mexico water at the Ed Walline Regional Beach Access across from Gulf Place in Santa Rosa Beach.

Some plungers wore costumes, others came out early to huddle around the bonfire before taking their dips.

“This charity fundraiser benefits the South Walton Fire District Department Relations Committee and their efforts to support fire prevention educational programs and activities throughout the year,” said Fire Marshal Sammy Sanchez. “And it’s a great way to welcome in the New Year.”
