Crash occurred on Hamilton Bridge Road near Hawks Nest Drive in Santa Rosa County.

A Milton man is hospitalized in critical condition following an early morning single-vehicle crash in Santa Rosa County.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, 30-year-old Joshua Hayes Burris was traveling east on Hamilton Bridge Road near Hawks Nest Drive at the time of the 3:45 a.m. crash Saturday.

For an unknown reason, Hayes lost control of his 2011 Lincoln MKZ and began to spin counterclockwise. The vehicle continued to spin as it crossed the westbound lanes onto the shoulder of the roadway where the right side of the Lincoln struck a tree.

After the initial impact with the tree, the Lincoln continued to spin back onto the road, where it came to a final rest across both lanes of travel.

Burris was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with a serious head injury. He remained listed in critical condition Sunday morning.

FHP noted alcohol was not related to the crash and that charges are pending.
