S.R. 85 crash hospitalizes two with serious, critical injuries

Two people from Florala, Alabama, are hospitalized with serious injuries following a New Year’s Day crash on State Road 85.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, David L. Vickers was driving on S.R. 85 near Plympton Road in Okaloosa County at the time of the 3:54 p.m. crash.

FHP noted in the release that Vickers’ 2001 Mercury Mountaineer traveled off the roadway onto the west shoulder of the road, slammed into a tree and overturned at least once.

The vehicle came to rest on the passenger side in the southbound lane of S.R. 85.

Vickers is listed in serious condition at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center while a passenger, Michelle Jackson, was listed Tuesday morning in critical condition.

The release reported that alcohol tests for Vickers are pending.
