The South Walton Children’s Chorus Opens Registration For Spring Session

Santa Rosa Beach—The South Walton Children’s Chorus is excited to announce that registration for its spring season is now open! Students between the ages of 9-13 are welcome to register ($50) by February 1, 2018 to participate in this unique opportunity in South Walton. Rehearsals take place every Monday from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. at Christ the King Episcopal Church. The students’ achievements will be showcased during the spring concert Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 1:00 p.m.

In its third season under the direction of internationally acclaimed opera singer Kara Bishop, the South Walton Children’s Chorus provides Destin and Santa Rosa Beach students the opportunity to learn to read music, strengthen vocal fundamentals, as well as form long-lasting friendships. Bishop currently teaches 15 students, but is looking forward to expanding the chorus to “build the music culture of the community.”

During the fall term, the South Walton Children’s Chorus was invited to perform with Panama City Pops during their Beach Home for the Holiday concert at Pier Park in Panama City Beach. They also hosted a winter concert to share their progression of skills and music fundamentals with the community. Not only did students gain confidence and performance experience, they had a great time sharing their musical talent.

Parent Beth Roberts, whose daughter Anna joined the chorus in October said, “Growing up, my sister and I sang with a large church choir. Our experience gave us friendships, confidence, and the joy of performing for others. I now see these same qualities given to my daughter, Anna, as she performs and practices with the South Walton’s Children’s Chorus! Kara’s love of singing is being passed, so patiently, to these young children and they are reaping the benefits!”

Director Kara Bishop, a renowned lyric-coloratura soprano who performed across Europe and the United States, explained, “Music is so important for areas of children’s brains…responsible for processing sound, language development, speech perception, math and reading skills.”
