SCHOOL SCOOPS: College credit night at Walton HS

All parents of eighth-, ninth- and 10-grade students, as well as those students, may attend the Walton High School’s College Credit Night at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the WHS auditorium.

Speakers include representatives from Northwest Florida State College, Emerald Coast Technical Center, College Board and Embry Riddle University.

St. Mary School opened Catholic School Week on Jan. 28 with a celebration at the St. Mary Catholic Church’s 9:30 a.m. mass. Staff was recognized and a reception followed.

Throughout the week, students continued to celebrate, with today being silly socks and hats day. Grandparents join the students on Tuesday for daily mass and a breakfast.

The community serves as inspiration for the Wednesday activities: student will make placemats for a local soup kitchen. On Thursday, the students recognize vocations, dressing as favorite super heroes.

The week concludes with students wearing the school colors on Friday.

Support local music at the Magnolia Grill’s annual Pryor Middle School Band pancake breakfast from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Fare includes all-you-can-eat buttermilk pancakes, smoked sugar sausage, orange juice and coffee.

The band members and their families serve as guest hosts, with all proceeds and gratuities benefitting the band.

A suggested minimum donation of $7 per person can be made on the morning of the event; larger donations area also accepted.

Varsity play for the St. Mary School’s Academic Tournament on Jan. 20 saw the STEMM school place first, followed by Ruckel Middle School. Baker School placed third.

At the junior varsity level, Liza Jackson Preparatory School took first, with Ruckel at second and Lewis School in third.

Paxton School received recognition from Gov. Rick Scott for achieving top 10 percent among schools in Florida for improvement in mathematics achievement, from 2015-16 to 2016-17.

The South Walton Children’s Chorus, directed by Kara Bishop, holds registration for its spring season now through Feb. 1. The spring concert is held May 6.
