Staff Report

A Northwest Florida man is hospitalized in critical condition following a violent rollover crash Friday.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, 57-year-old Tom Vasiliades of Panama City Beach was traveling east on Steel Field Road in Bay County at the time of the 4:30 p.m. crash

FHP stated that the 2004 Mazda Tribute that Vasiliades was driving failed to negotiate a curve which forced the vehicle onto the south shoulder of the roadway. As Vasiliades tried to steer the Mazda back onto the road, it caught loose soil and began to overturn.

As the Mazda was rolling, it collided with a free-standing utility pole. The vehicle came to a final rest on the passenger side against the pole facing north.

FHP noted that alcohol was not related to the crash. The release did not state whether Vasiliades was wearing a seat belt.

Vasiliades was listed in critical condition at Bay Medical Sacred Heart early Saturday morning.

The release said charges were pending.
