EMERALD COAST THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS SUMMER ON STAGE 2018

 Calling junior thespians from pre-school to high school to join us on stage and backstage to

act, sing, dance, joke and spar — all summer long in 10 fun theater camps

 

Miramar Beach, Fla. (March 30, 2018) — Calling all drama queens (and kings) to the stage. It’s finally the proper time to “act out!” Emerald Coast Theatre Company (ECTC), a not-for-profit professional theater company based in Miramar Beach, Florida, presents Summer on Stage — a series of 10 engaging offerings designed especially for the young performer.

 

“The continued success of our educational program has clearly shown that Emerald Coast kids have been bitten by the theater bug,” said ECTC producing artistic director Nathanael Fisher. “We’re exciting to debut our lineup of theater camps and workshops designed for young thespians ­from pre-school to high school. Whether your child is interested in being either center stage in the spotlight or backstage behind the scenes, the common theme is everyone who joins our ECTC tribe, gets to experience the joy of theater.”

 

Summer on Stage offerings will be held at ECTC’s performance space located at 560 Grand Boulevard at Sandestin in Miramar Beach, unless noted otherwise.

 

Little Rascals Camp (Age 4 – 6)

Designed specifically for our youngest players, our Little Rascals camps focus on activities that allow students to explore acting, singing and movement in an energetic, nurturing environment that fosters creativity and collaboration.

 

This camp is Monday-Friday (days may vary around holidays) from 9 a.m. to noon with a final performance on the last day of camp. Tuition is $130 per person. The sessions are as follows:

May 29-June 1     Pirates and Princesses, ECTC at Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach

June 11-14            Mermaids and Musketeers, ECTC at Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach

July 23-27                              Bayou Arts Center, Santa Rosa Beach – Frozen Snow Queen

July 30-Aug 3                        Bayou Arts Center, Santa Rosa Beach – Hawaiian Moana Theme

 

The Adventures of Robin Hood (Grades 2nd-8th)

Calling all brave and virtuous knights and maidens. Join our quest in this non-musical version of “Robin Hood.” Robin Hood is the outlaw of Sherwood Forest, leading a merry life with his followers. Anyone needing a place to live or food to eat is welcome. Impoverished citizens led by Robin are waging a battle against the evil Prince John. There’s sure to be lots of crazy antics in this classic story that’s got something for everyone to love.

 

This camp runs Monday-Friday with a final performance on the last day of camp. Tuition is $175 per person. The sessions are as follows:

June 4-8 *9 a.m.-3 p.m.                    ECTC at Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach

June 18-22            *9 a.m.-3 p.m.                    Gulf Coast State College, Panama City

July 30-Aug 3        *9 a.m.-3 p.m.                    ECTC at Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach

Camp Showtime (Grades 2nd-8th)

Let the rhythm get you! Come act, sing and dance your heart out to popular Broadway tunes as we learn songs and simple choreography to some of the most popular musical numbers in show business. Play theater games and watch classic musicals on film. Parents, prepared to be wowed with a performance the final day of camp.

 

This camp runs Monday-Friday with a final performance on the last day of camp. Tuition is $150 per child. The sessions are as follows:

July 16-20              *9 a.m.-3 p.m.                    Seaside Neighborhood School

July 23-27              *9 a.m.-3 p.m.                    Gulf Coast State College, Panama City

Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr. (Grades 3rd-9th)

Travel down the rabbit hole and join Alice, one of literature’s most beloved heroines, in her madcap adventures. Featuring updated songs from Disney’s thrilling animated motion picture, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr. is a fast-paced take on the classic tale. This two-week musical theater camp gives ECTC instructors time with your young thespian to train them even more with stage presence, acting techniques and theater games.

This camp runs Monday-Friday for two weeks (skipping Saturday and Sunday) with a final performance the Friday evening and Saturday morning of the last week of camp. Tuition is $375 per person (payments available). The sessions are as follows:

Middle/High School Advanced Workshops

 

Designing Minds

Have you ever wondered how the Broadway designers do it? This camp is all about learning the process that many of the big names in the industry use. It will explore how to access the creative spaces in your brain, pull out ideas, share them, play with them, and then turn the ideas them into a design. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn the process of taking a story from script to stage, either through costumes or scenery. Additionally, you will learn some drawing skills, and in the afternoons, have a chance to break out the paint brushes and do some scenic painting. Our motto is that no idea is ever a bad idea, so come join us and see where your Designing Minds will take you. Tuition is $175 per person. The schedule is as follows:

 

June 18-22            Monday-Friday 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., ECTC at Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach

 

Techies Rule!

Get hands on experience with set building, set painting, prop making, stage management and costume construction. A great introduction to all the behind the scenes magic that goes into producing a show.  Work alongside ECTC’s Technical Director, Stage Manager and Costume Designer as you learn about everything that happens backstage. Campers will assist with the technical elements of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Camp. Tuition is $150 per person. The schedule is as follows:

 

June 25-29            Monday-Friday 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., ECTC at Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach

 

So, You Wanna Do Shakespeare…
In this workshop we will discover the keys to unlocking Shakespeare’s works. The answers to doing Shakespeare are hidden within the words themselves, and half of the fun of Shakespeare is hunting for those answers. In this workshop, we will tackle some of his most beautiful poetry, sonnets, and the discoveries you make here you can then apply to any of his works. The camp will end with a public performance on the last day of camp. Tuition is $175 per person. The schedule is as follows:

 

July 9-13                Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-3 p.m., ECTC at Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach

 

The Freedom of Improvisation
The idea of “improvisation” is often surrounded with a lot of mystery. Why do we do it? Why are some people better at it than others? Does it really help you become a better actor? In this workshop through a series of exercises and games we will explore how improvisation can be a great tool to take your acting to a whole new level and along the way we will discover that improvisation can be beneficial and enjoyable for everyone. Tuition is $175 per person. The schedule is as follows:

 

July 16-20              Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., ECTC at Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach

 

Advanced Theatre Workshop

Improve your acting technique and skills with an ensemble of supportive and focused thespians as you work on acting scenes. Daily exercises will sharpen acting techniques, and the week will culminate in a public showcase of scene work. Tuition is $175 per person. The schedule is as follows:

 

July 23-27                              Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. ECTC at Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach

Performance Friday, July 27 at 2 p.m.

 

Lightsaber Stage Combat Class
Come train to be a Jedi! In this class, students will learn how to wield the lightsaber, an elegant weapon from a more sophisticated age. The students will learn how to engage in a stage combat scene safely and effectively, performing a choreographed scene at the end of the class. Whether you are crushing the rebellion or resisting the galactic empire, here you will learn the skills needed to become a master of the Force and warrior on stage. Proper Dress is required: Nonrestrictive clothing suitable for movement. All students should wear appropriate athletic shoes. No flip flops. Class minimum registration deadline is five days prior to workshop, please register before this date. Bring a lunch, snack and water. Tuition is $60 per person. (Early Bird pricing does not apply to this class.)
