The Stewart Family; Three Generations of Local Art

Spread the love

William Edwards and his daughters, Nicolette and Sarah, and two of their children, were undaunted by the weather at this year’s Art in the Park in Watercolor. The annual event was all but rained out on Saturday, but it was a sweet reunion and a treasured memory for this artistic family.

William is a versatile artist, known for his acrylic landscapes and textural bas relief plaster pieces. He was originally trained in decorative arts including trompe l’oeil in London, Miami and New York City. His decorative cabinet finishes and art pieces grace the walls of Alys and Rosemary Beach and other fine homes in the Panhandle. His daughters both pursued degrees outside the Arts but found the call to return to their creative roots too strong to ignore.

Sarah’s art debut in Walton county was “Sarah’s Reef,” a locally sold collection of hand illustrated seashells. She has since expanded her mediums to include acrylic, glass and resin work and now includes oils and plaster as well. Two of her children decided to bring their paintings to the show and happily chatted with customers throughout the weekend.

Nicolette loves to express herself with her bold abstract acrylics on canvas and paints in the same studio space as her father. The two have very different styles but appreciate each other’s love of color, design and the creative process. She finds inspiration from her world travels from Dubai to London and from South America to Santa Rosa Beach. Her work exudes life and energy!

Although the styles of art in their tent were diverse, it all seemed to compliment each other and create a beautiful combined effect.

Art in the Park was the first of many family art shows and is now a new tradition for this three generation family of local artists.

To see more of their art, Sarah, William and Nicolette are currently exhibiting at Henrietta’s Bakery in Seagrove Beach.
