Seaside Institute Logo

Seaside Institute remains dedicated to offering programming to further the New Urbanism discussion.  As we face everything from Floods to Hurricanes, Pandemics to Wildfires, our communities are affected by all. What can we do in advance to protect our homes, families and businesses, our communication streams and the economic stability of our communities? What are the responsibilities of the government and each individual citizen?  How we work together is vital to ensure that any setback is minor and easily recoverable.

Seaside Institute’s Symposium Transforming Communities through New Urbanism Pt II: Preparing for a Resilient Future will bring together notable speakers from around the country to explore the concepts, factors, challenges and solutions in transforming communities in advance of a natural disaster to mitigate devastating results.  In a global economy our communities are more closely linked than ever. Registered attendees will have opportunities to learn and create practical applications in their regions.

Notable speakers include Kay Goss, Former Associate Director of FEMA who will discuss the role of Emergency Management along with Daniel Kaniewski, also a Former Associate Director of FEMA; Urban Planner Joe Minicozzi focuses on imagining new ways to think about and visualize land use, urban design and economics;  Economist Stan Veuger will share timely insights on the design of the federal economic response to the Covid-19 crisis, to name a few of our esteemed presenters.
