Craving some old-fashioned home-style cooking? Now you can find biscuits as good as grandma used to make just steps from the beach. New from St. Joe Hospitality, Scratch Biscuit Kitchen opened in the WaterColor® Town Center in February 2021. With a menu based around its delectable made-from-scratch biscuits and its own signature coffee blend, the restaurant offers a casual coastal atmosphere with dine-in or to-go service perfect for the whole family.
The legendary biscuits for which Scratch Biscuit Kitchen is named are mixed by hand and dropped in a pan so that they bump into one another while baking. This results in buttery, fluffy, and flaky square-shaped biscuits in a true Southern style. Customers may order biscuits by the dozen or individually, and complement them with a house-made jams, jellies, and gravies in many varieties.
“We’re excited to bring a distinct flavor of our Southern coast to 30A, while honoring a tradition as delicious and fond as grandma’s biscuits,” said Zack Coleman, Scratch Biscuit Kitchen’s General Manager. “The team and I are looking forward to welcoming our locals and visitors alike and becoming what we hope will be a go-to breakfast and lunch spot in South Walton.”
Open Monday through Sunday from 7AM to 2PM with the carry-out window opening at 6:30AM, the restaurant’s menu includes Benny-style Biscuits, Between-the-Biscuits appetizers, and Not-So Square Lunch entrees as well as homecooked sides, small bites, and sweet treats. Find an array of biscuit sandwiches featuring creative combinations from the “Deep South” with fried green tomatoes, country ham, pepper jelly, Thomasville tomme, and scratch bacon to the “Down Home” with brisket, hash brown casserole, sunny egg, swiss cheese, and ‘mater gravy. The Not-So-Square lunch options include five different sandwiches served with chips and a pickle.
Coffee-loving Scratch regulars can join the Mug Club for a one-year membership fee of $35.99 to receive a “Mug Club”-branded YETI Rambler® and $1 coffee on every visit with daily selections of the Scratch’s personal coffee blend. Other beverage options include a varied selection of sodas, beers, wines, and mimosas. Diners seeking healthier meals can order the house-made granola and yogurt boat, Anson Mills stone ground oats, or the seasonal fruit plate. Available sweets include muffins, coffee cake, bread pudding, apple pie, and the signature “Biscuit Doughnut and Chocolate Gravy” – a mouthwatering treat crafted from a combination of biscuit, chocolate gravy, strawberries, and powdered sugar.
Scratch has a warm welcoming atmosphere with ample table and bench seating as well as a long bar with barstools along with outdoor seating. The walls feature bright white shiplap contrasted by light wood floors, coastal-style lighting, and orange accents. Customers can order at the counter and choose a seat, order in person at the designated carry, or call (850) 231-6550 to place a carryout order. The restaurant plans to offer online ordering and delivery services by Spring 2021.
