WALTON COUNTY, Fla— Walton County Sheriff’s Office is looking for those seeking sponsorships to attend the law enforcement academy to pursue a career in public safety.

WCSO is continuing its initiative to provide access to law enforcement training to those wishing to serve the Walton County community.

Starting in August of this year, WCSO, in collaboration with Northwest Florida State College, will be offering sponsorships to individuals looking for a career in law enforcement.

The full-time, six-month academy will take place four days a week and will be instructed by members of NWFSC as well as local law enforcement agencies. Courses will be held at the Niceville or DeFuniak Springs campuses and will utilize training facilities at the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

“The benefit to being able to provide an academy with a partnership with Northwest Florida State College is these men and women will experience our culture and atmosphere from the start,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “The hope is that the members will have a greater understanding of our mission and values as an agency.”

WCSO’S partnership with NWFSC extends beyond law enforcement as it moves to facilitate courses for all first responders.

“The facilities at the Sheriff’s Office such as a driving pad, fire tower, and firing range are just a few ways to provide the critical training areas, taking the partnership and training to the next level,” said Adkinson. “The availability of these new courses would not be possible without funding from the Triumph Grant and NWFSC.”
