45 Central Wine Bar Welcomes Escape to Create Musicians Matt Otto and William Flynn

Matt Otto and William Flynn Set to Play at 45 Central as Part of the Escape to Create Program in Seaside

As part of the 2017 Escape to Create Program, musicians, artists and writers are invited to live in Seaside for a residency while exploring the beauty of South Walton, making lasting friendships and fine tuning their craft. Seaside homeowners and businesses will open their doors to the artists to provide a place for them to live and share their talents with the public. On Jan 19 and Jan 29 from 4-6pm, 45 Central is proud to welcome two such musicians – saxophonist Matt Otto and Jazz guitarist William Flynn. Chef Jim Shirley, along with the 45 Central staff, welcome everyone to come listen and enjoy. The events are free and open to the public, (21+).

About Matt: Composer, saxophonist and bandleader Matt Otto is Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at Kansas University and Adjunct Professor at Rutgers New Brunswick.  A Los Angeles native, Otto is co-founder of the esteemed L.A. Jazz Collective, an ongoing outreach program advancing young jazz composers and performers. Otto has performed internationally with a variety of leading jazz artists including Grammy nominated Anthony Wilson Nonet and Alan Ferber Big Band. His jazz quartet performs regularly in Kansas City, MO and is attributed with elevating the level of jazz through Otto’s compositions and solos “imbued with grace and serenity.” While in Seaside he will perform a public concert in Seaside and offer a master class in jazz performance for county jazz band students.

About William: Jazz guitarist, composer and educator William Flynn is Assistant Professor of Jazz Guitar at Wichita State University (Kansas). He is considered one of the region’s most important and creative new voices currently working in the genre. Flynn has performed with numerous jazz luminaries including Grammy-nominated One-O’Clock Lab Band. While in Seaside, he will complete a second collection of modern jazz arrangements for his multi-volume “The Songbook Project.” His critically praised arrangements, influenced heavily by pop music of ‘90’s and 2000’s, are dedicated to introducing a new generation to the world of Jazz. While in residency in Seaside, Flynn will perform on guitar and conduct a jazz improvisation clinic for middle school students.

About E2C:

During their month stay, artists expect to be inspired by Seaside and its residents. The residency itself is made possible by the extraordinary generosity of homeowners who donate their resort homes for artist housing during the off-season months. Local arts organizations, galleries and restaurants provide intimate venues that facilitate powerful connection and exchange during artist presentations.
