Saturday evening update from Walton County Emergency Management: Walton County Commissioners have declared a state of emergency for Walton County in advance of the potential for tropical storm force winds to arrive in Walton County on Sunday evening. This declaration comes in advance of a planned shelter opening at Freeport High School at 10 a.m. Sunday morning for residents living in mobile homes, homes that residents do not feel are safe, or for individuals with special needs.

Currently there is no mandatory evacuation ordered for any part of Walton County. Only a voluntary evacuation order has been issued. There is no storm surge expected to impact the Walton County area, which is why no mandatory evacuation has been issued. However, the arrival of tropical storm force winds could lead the Florida Highway Patrol to close bridges, which would limit access into or out of South Walton.
