A 5-year-old boy was lifeflighted after being run over by a trailer on a hayride for trick-or-treating neighborhood kids.
Staff Report
A 5-year-old Northwest Florida boy was seriously injured Tuesday night during trick-or-treating hours after falling out of a pickup during a hayride for neighborhood kids.
Authorities responded to a “vehicle versus pedestrian” on White Oaks Boulevard near State Road 77 in northern Bay County shortly after dark and found the injured child.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, witnesses stated that the truck driven by 40-year-old John Waldrip of Panama City was traveling at a very slow speed approaching a house on the north shoulder of White Oak Boulevard when Nathan Adam Larsen fell off the front of the trailer it was pulling with hay bails and neighborhood kids. The truck continued to move causing the trailer to be pulled over the boy.
Scanner reports indicated authorities shut down a section of S.R. 77 northbound in that area to create a landing zone for a medical helicopter, and it was later confirmed the injured child was lifeflighted to Bay Medical Sacred Heart in Panama City.
The northbound lanes of State 77 were reopened around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The FHP release noted the boy remained listed in serious condition Wednesday morning and that no charges are pending.
