A Northwest Florida man was killed after being ejected from his SUV during an accident in Gulf County on Sunday.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, Donald M. Burkett, 77, of Wewahitchka was traveling east on County Road 20, approximately five miles west of State Road 71, at the time of the 3:46 p.m. fatal crash.

FHP noted that as Burkett rounded a right hand curve in his 1999 Mercury Mountaineer he lost control on the dirt road and rotated counter-clockwise. The rotation caused the SUV to overturn in the roadway and continue overturning into the north ditch of County Road 20.

Burkett, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and later pronounced dead at the scene.
