Congratulations to Eglin Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year, Monica Newsome, and to Tamie Foster, Educational Support Professional of the Year.

Students have been participating in the annual Jingle Bell Run during their physical education classes. This provides them an opportunity for them to earn a holiday toe token. Parents and guardians are invited to run with their students. The activity ends Tuesday, Dec. 14.

Paxton School hosts its science night on Dec. 12 for students in prekindergarten through 12 grade. A variety of science, technology, engineering and math displays and projects will be presented.

Since the basketball team also plays that night, half-time will include an “Are you smarter than a Bobcat” trivia game.

In other news, the students of the month for November are high school, Tabitha Snow; middle school, Deerlyn Guzman-Lopez; and elementary school, Branten Miller.

Both the Pryor Middle School band and chorus saw students selected for the honor all-count and for the all-state music honor programs.

The all-county chorus participants included Destiny Doe, Nathan Gregory, Luana Lim, Derrick Meacham, Elizabeth Sidley and Amaya Stokes. Amaya also earned a ticket for the all-state middle school chorus.

From the band, Will Harvey/percussion, Megan Macdonald/bass clarinet, Jaimz McGee/trombone and Lundy Phillips/trumpet earned spots in all-county. Lundy heads to all-state in January.

Jaimie Brown directs the chorus, while Hank Phillips directs the band.

In November, the Emerald Coast Middle School sixth-graders participated in the Tropicana Speech Competition under guidance of language arts teachers Leslie MacPike and Christine Solomon.

The overall winners include first-place Maya Sien, second Auburn Hamer and third Jaiden Morris.

Natalie Mitchell, Sami Thompson, Kamryn Cooper, Josie Abicca, Cassidy Cabe and Tyler Johnson also competed.

Longwood Elementary School hosted its science fair in November, when teachers from Meigs and Pryor middle schools and from Choctawhatchee High School served as judges.

As part of the event, students, parents and staff ran and tested experiments brought to the school by the Emerald Coast Science Center.

Kenwood Elementary School held its winter concert and art show on Dec. 7. Student art lined the cafeteria walls and the fourth- and fifth-grade band performed.
