Staff report
PONCE DE LEON — A large fire heavily damaged a two-story house Thursday evening.
According to a press release from Walton County Fire Rescue, crews were dispatched shortly after 5 p.m. to a 911 call about a fire at 148 Rushing Road in Ponce de Leon. Firefighters and paramedics found heavy smoke and flames when they arrived.
Firefighters tried to battle the blaze from the interior, but had to get out because of the amount of fire and the danger of the building collapsing. It took crews from Walton County Fire Rescue and Argyle more than an hour to contain the fire. Firefighters were on the scene until just after midnight Friday.
No one was home when the fire ignited and no injuries were reported.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire. The American Red Cross was called out to assist the home’s residents.
