Gulf Coast State College presents “Identity” Art Exhibit

Panama City, FL – The Visual & Performing Arts Division of Gulf Coast State College is excited to present “Identity,” an exhibition featuring ceramic sculpture and wares by Keith Smith and Wesley Harvey.

The work explores the ideas of definition, construct and allocation of identity. Identity can be cultivated from within or assigned by external forces; oftentimes it’s a result of the tension between the two. The artists harvest that tension to create work that uniquely defines who they are. These artists make for an odd couple as their work could not be more different in substance or style. Yet viewed side-by-side, they heighten the diversity of the human experience and bring into focus the relationships that inevitably emerge as a result of sharing the same space.

Smith is a figurative sculptor and educator working primarily in ceramics and cast metal, and is currently an Associate Professor of Ceramics and Sculpture at Kennesaw State University. Harvey lives and works in Atlanta and is a Lecturer in Ceramics at the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University. His artwork can be found in various publications and is included in permanent and private collections in the United States, South America, China and Italy.
