DESTIN — The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village is within driving distance of many southern and southeastern states, and online travel company Expedia and its sister company CarRentals.com have taken note.
CarRentals.com recently released an article entitled “You Want Adventure? You’ll Find It at These 5 Beach Towns” and featured Destin as a coastal town primed to explore via automobile.
“It’s summertime! You know what that means? All responsibilities and inhibitions immediately go out the window of that rental car of yours — who needs them anyway?” reads the article. “Whether it’s at a lake or one of the ocean coasts, the beach is earth’s version of heaven.”
According to the story, 64 percent of survey respondents said they seek adventure when they take a road trip. The story named five beach towns across the county with fun things to do, including Destin.
The article promotes Destin as a great spot for charter boat fishing, volleyball playing and swimming in the turquoise water.
The writer who penned the piece, Chris Killen, said he chose to feature Destin for its plethora of things to explore in one day. The Swoop Fishing Charters was mentioned as a must-do activity and 102.1 FM was mentioned as a good radio station to listen to while driving in Destin.
“Why is Destin one of our best beach towns for an adventure?” Killen said. “Because you can catch a mahimahi, play a few games of beach volleyball, and go for a swim in the waters off the Emerald Coast all before dinner time.”
Other beach towns featured in the story were Traverse City, Michigan; Newport Beach, California; Narragansett, Rhode Island; and Galveston, Texas.
