MILTON — A Milton man is dead after a traffic accident on Interstate 10 on Thursday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Jimmy L. Berger, 76, was driving a 2016 Ford F-150 pickup truck east on I-10 near the Avalon Boulevard exit as Donald E. Chase, 35, of Crestview, was following in flatbed truck, the FHP reported.

Berger made a sudden stop because of traffic congestion, but Chase could not stop in time and hit the rear of Berger’s pickup, the FHP said.

Berger was taken to Santa Rosa Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
