Spice up your weekend while supporting the St. George Island Volunteer Fire Department and First Responder team at the St. George Island Chili Cook-Off and Auction! There is something for everyone including a golf tournament, a 5K Run, art show, Miss Chili Pepper and Mr. Hot Sauce contests, silent auction and of course the CHILI COOK-OFF sanctioned by the International Chili Society.
The Chili Cook-off is the primary fundraiser for the St. George Island Volunteer Fire Department and First Responder team. First held 37 years ago, this hugely successful fundraiser has enabled the SGI VFD to purchase multiple fire trucks, firefighter gear, provide training and certification for its members and maintain two fire stations on the island. It’s a day of volunteerism when the SGI community joins together to support it’s emergency volunteers who return the favor the rest of the year with every emergency call.
Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Beach Properties of Florida agent Grayson Shepard has served as a Director of the Chili Cook-off for 15 years and is in charge of organizing the actual chili cooking competition. The event typically attracts 35-50 cooks a year from all over the southeast. In year’s past, winners of the SGI Chili Cook-off have gone on to win and place in the top three at the National Championships in Las Vegas. Grayson and his fellow Cook-off board members donate hundreds of hours of their personal time to organize and operate this fantastic event!
