Grayton Beach State Park is once again near the top of the Dr. Beach’s infamous Top 10 Beaches of America for 2019. Ranked at number three, Grayton Beach State Park boasts nearly 2,000 acres of preservation land with a pristine coastline, rare coastal dune lake Western Lake, hiking and biking trails, camping and more.

The park is often rated among the best beaches in national surveys and has appeared twice on Dr. Beach’s list, at number one in 1994 and number six in 2016. Dr. Beach, also known as Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, has been officially rating beaches since 1991. He uses a range of 50 criteria including water and sand quality, safety and views.

Dr. Leatherman is a coastal scientist and professor at Florida International University and widely published author of books, journal articles and technical reports. Other beaches to make the 2019 Top Beaches list include Kailua Beach Park in Hawaii, Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach in North Carolina and Coopers Beach in New York.
