Clint Eagar wins Safari Club International’s Artist of the Year
By Rita L. Sherwood
South Walton’s own Clint Eagar has won Artist of the Year for Safari Club International with his work entitled “Mountain Ram.” Raised in South Africa around Kruger National Park, Clint has been around big game for most of his childhood and has deep roots and a love for animals in Africa as well as North America. Clint says, “I’ve been working on a genre so my work has a purpose, and I’ve finally achieved it. I want my work to be more than just a pretty picture.” He goes on to say, “Of course I want my paintings to have magnificent light and depth, but also have meaningful inner beauty, and a message behind them of planetary conservation; how can we help these animals, to love and protect them?” This deeper passion that Clint embodies is tied back to his childhood and his experiences and connections with large game animals.
“Mountain Ram” will be published in Safari Club International’s magazine, as well as auctioned off in a live auction at their next convention in Reno, Nevada, February 5th-8th, 2020. Also, 125 giclee prints of “Mountain Ram” will also be distributed and displayed in Safari Club International charter offices around the world. A portion of the funds raised will support animal conservation, a topic that Clint is passionate about.
Another organization that Clint and his wife Effie support is White Oak Conservation, one of the world’s premier wildlife conservation facilities, just north of Jacksonville, Florida. White Oak breeds rare game and endangered animals on more than 17,000 acres. Clint also sells his art here and a portion of the proceeds goes to support White Oak.
He’s also no stranger to fame, as he won accolades as a 23 year old artist back in the 1980s with his abstract works, so much in fact, that they’re even displayed at the Hong Kong International Airport, traded among private investors, and even most recently featured in Sony Entertainment’s new TV show Black Monday.
And when he’s not engaged in his best and most meaningful work, Clint is passionate about vintage car racing, lifetime surfing, and is even an advanced licensed scuba diver.
