Road 2 Resilience Recovery Exercise to be Held in Miramar Beach
Walton County Emergency Management is engaged and committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of over 68,000 people living within their county. This exercise will be conducted all day on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Resurrection Catholic Church 259 Miramar Beach Drive, Miramar Beach, FL 32550.
Planning for the recovery period following a catastrophic disaster can be difficult given the complex issues which arise during and after disasters.
In order to see the community’s capabilities, gaps, and vulnerabilities, Walton County Emergency Management, in cooperation with Florida State University’s Center for Disaster Risk Policy, along with over 150 participants from almost 100 local, State, non-profit agencies, and businesses, will participate in “Road 2 Resilience”, the largest whole community recovery tabletop exercise attempted in the State of Florida. Using a realistic disaster scenario, participants will make decisions based on the scenario and evaluate the final outcomes to better assist future planning.
Exercises like this are an example of Walton County Emergency Management’s continued commitment to community safety for all residents, businesses, and visitors. The goal of this exercise is to allow all participants to plan for the recovery period using evidence and experience-based decisions. The target objectives are reconstruction, holistic long-term recovery, and community enhancement. Reconstruction includes infrastructure such as housing, social services, and critical lifelines. Holistic long-term recovery objectives included economic and quality of life factors within the community like employment opportunities and cultural/social events. Community enhancement includes the process of restoring all aspects of the community and improving conditions over those that existed before the disaster.
