DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. – The City of DeFuniak Springs will host a groundbreaking ceremony at the DeFuniak Springs Municipal Airport on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Airport terminal located at 1931 U.S. Highway 90 West, DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Florida Senator George B. Gainer and Representative Brad Drake are expected to attend and give remarks.
The $6.9 million project will build a new terminal and expand the runway. The project is expected to be completed within 20 months, excluding supply chain delays. The DeFuniak Springs Municipal Airport is a community airport that serves general and corporate aviation. Our mission is to be the premier general aviation airport on the Emerald Coast and the gateway airport to the beaches of South Walton.
“The airport terminal project has been a labor of love for several years. The pandemic and economic climate have certainly posed challenges; however, we’re extremely pleased to announce construction will begin on this hallmark facility,” said Airport Director Dan Edwards.
State and County elected officials, to include the Walton County Board of County Commissioners, have been invited to the event. Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to Airport Administrative Assistant Crystal Carter at 850-892-2000 or airportadminassist@defuniaksprings.net by Monday, May 2.

About The City of DeFuniak Springs: Located in Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast, one hundred miles east of Tallahassee, the City of DeFuniak Springs is the county seat of Walton County. We are the gateway to the beaches of the Emerald Coast and home to Lake DeFuniak, one of only two spring-fed lakes in the world that is almost perfectly round. Founded in the 19th century as a resort for railroad travelers, and later the summer resort for the Chautauqua, the town welcomed presidents, poets, writers, and musicians to the charming community as a vacation destination. We still welcome travelers interested in Florida’s rich history and culture. To find out more, visit our website at www.defuniaksprings.net or call (850) 892-8500.
