Find Brunch with a New Orleans Flair at the Ruby Slipper

Image courtesy of Ruby Slipper Residents and locals alike were thrilled for New Orleans-based Ruby Slipper to open a new location in Destin serving up their signature creative twists on brunch classics and eye-opening cocktails seven days a week, including Eggs Cochon, Bananas Foster Pain Perdu, and an award-winning Bacon Bloody Mary. Founded in May 2008 after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, the original Ruby Slipper café was born in a rejuvenated Mid-City corner store that quickly became a vibrant gather place for neighbors to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and brunch in an inviting atmosphere. Owners (husband and wife) Erich and Jennifer went on to open additional New Orleans locations, eventually branching out of the city with a location in Pensacola. The restaurant group has now expanded to multiple states and locations. The Destin café features the brand’s signature welcoming and vibrant atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating. Highlights of the menu include Eggs Benedicts, Beignets, and White Chocolate Bread Pudding Pancakes. As their motto of “There are few things in life a mimosa can’t solve,” suggests, a variety of eye-opening cocktails are also available to sample. “Brunch is so much more than a meal. It’s a culture. A lifestyle. Something just happens at a brunch table, and we’re excited to bring our point of view and experience to the beautiful Florida Panhandle and make it accessible every day of the week” said Peter Gaudreau, CEO of Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group. WALTON COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS KNOCK DOWN FIRE ENGULING A HOME IN PONCE DE LEON

WALTON COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS KNOCK DOWN FIRE ENGULING A HOME IN PONCE DE LEON Posted on August 1, 2022 PONCE DE LEON, FL — Walton County Fire Rescue firefighters rush to a Ponce de Leon home after receiving a call about a structure fire with children possibly inside. At 12:02 PM on Monday, August 1, 2022, Walton County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a home on K and M Farm Road following a 911 call from a neighbor reporting a nearby home on fire. The caller stated he knew they had a dog and three small children, all of whom may still be inside the home. When Walton County Fire Rescue arrived on scene, they found flames engulfing the right side of a multi-level house. Firefighters conducted an initial search for anyone who may still be inside the home. Fortunately, no one was found, and the neighbor was able to get the dog out of the home safely. After firefighters knocked down the flames, a secondary search was conducted on the damaged home to verify no one was inside at the time of the fire. Family members later located the children at a friend’s house down the road. Walton County Fire Rescue had the flames extinguished in only 20 minutes, keeping the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. “Getting a call like this is never easy,” says Fire Chief Tracey Vause. “Knowing children could be trapped inside a burning home is one of the scariest thoughts as a... FLHSMV FLOW BUS VISITS WALTON COUNTY JAIL; MORE THAN 40 INMATES RECEIVE ID CARDS

FLHSMV FLOW BUS VISITS WALTON COUNTY JAIL; MORE THAN 40 INMATES RECEIVE ID CARDS Posted on August 1, 2022 August 1, 2022 WALTON COUNTY, Fla— Inmates incarcerated at the Walton County Jail were given a special opportunity Monday. The Florida Licensing on Wheels (FLOW) bus visited the Walton County Jail, pulling into the facility to provide qualified inmates with the chance to renew their license or get an ID card. The FLOW program offers a one-stop convenience typically for members of the public. However, the Walton County Jail partners with FLHSMV to provide the service to inmates to help their re-entry once they are finished serving their sentences. On Monday, 42 inmates qualified for a Florida ID card, and three were issued their Florida Driver’s License. The cost of the IDs is funded through the inmate welfare program, which derives from money spent by inmates during incarceration. These funds can only be used for inmate welfare. “It’s an effort to reduce recidivism,” said Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “We hope this helps give inmates an opportunity to move forward quickly once they’re released from jail.” During a previous visit to the jail back in June, more than 50 inmates were issued Florida ID cards.   https://waltonso.org/news/feed/ Read More
