SCHOOL SCOOPS: Choctaw Style Marchers host middle schools

Earlier this month, the Choctawhatchee Style Marchers hosted a middle school band night for Liza Jackson Preparatory, Meigs Middle and Pryor Middle schools.

The students performed together the national anthem and several pop songs and cheer tunes.

Choctaw directors Jay McArthur and Brad Parks welcomed directors Mary Lambeth of LJPS, Ann Leffard of MMS, and Hank Phillips of PMS.

The chess club at Rocky Bayou Christian Academy elected Elijah Suh as its president, with Jeff Sober serving as vice president, Keiler Kowalik as secretary and Devon Lewis as treasurer. Ray Allen sponsors the club.

The school also announces its Fellowship of Christian Athletes captains: Elijah Suh, Kaylee Orr, Jeffrey Sober and faculty sponsor Kevin Walsh. The group is collecting Christmas gifts for residents of the Ronald McDonald House.

Under art teacher Sally Reagan, Choctawhatchee High School artists earned recognition in the Northwest Florida Fair Art Show: Jade Hornbaker, first place and an honorable mention; Jessica Vansteenbergen, third; and Hannah Hinson and Kristina Portier, honorable mentions.

The Hispanic Fest also held an art show, with submissions by Maria Jimenez, Erin Nicole DeCoker, McCaylee Dempcy, Meagan Vogel, Melissa Harrison, Alexi Cassulo, Kiana Owens and Payton Coulter.

Kindergarten teacher Catherine Payne was selected by her peers at Mary Esther Elementary School as Teacher of the Year.

Alyssa Brown and Bradley Garrett earned Paxton High School students of the month for October.

Gwen Wright’s first graders at Butler Elementary School have studied a unit about nocturnal animals. As part of their studies, the children dissected owl pellets.

The Freeport High School Industrial Studies program fostered a student trip to L3 Crestview Aerospace and American Elite Molding in Crestview.

L3 specializes in aircraft manufacturing, aero structures fabrication and aircraft modification. American Elite Molding produces nylon cable ties.

The Seaside Neighborhood School robotics team attended the Oct. 28 Emerald Coast Hub Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology Robotics Competition.

The Seaside students earned first place in several categories: BEST overall, Spirit and Sportsmanship, Interview and Team Exhibit, and Marketing Presentation. They took third in Robotics Game.
