Two people from Northwest Florida are hospitalized in serious condition following a crash that saw both vehicles involved overturn from the collision.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, Joseph George Rygula, 77, of Youngstown, initiated the 4:55 p.m. crash Friday while pulling onto State Road 77 from Crooked Lane in Bay County.

As Rygula entered onto S.R. 77, he drove his 2005 Honda CR-V into the path of a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Douglas Reese Boles, 31, of Panama City.

The front of the pickup struck the right side of the Honda, forcing the vehicle off the road and to overturn in a grass ditch.

The pickup rotated in a clockwise motion from the force of the collision and struck a fire hydrant, doing a complete rollover back onto its wheels.

Rygula and a passenger in the pickup, 25-year-old Deanna Lee Harcus of Callaway, remained listed in serious condition Saturday morning.

Rygula was taken to Bay Medical Sacred Heart and Harcus to Gulf Coast Medical Center. Both hospitals are in Panama City.

Alcohol was not related to the accident, according to FHP, which charged Rygula with failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
