5 people injured in Holmes County wreck

HOLMES COUNTY — Five people were taken to medical facilities with minor injuries after a crash Sunday night on State Road 81.

According to a press release from Florida Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Melissa Frances Stephens of Milton was driving northbound on State Road 81 around 7 p.m. Sunday in a 2015 Chevy Malibu when she veered off the paved portion of the roadway. She overcorrected and began traveling in a northwestern direction, crossing the the center line into the southbound travel lane.

Vincent Ryan Mickey, 48, of Panama City was traveling southbound on State Road 91 in a 2015 GMC Yukon with three passengers. He tried to avoid colliding head-on with the Chevy by swerving in a southwest direction. The left front of both vehicles collided causing the Chevy to rotate in a counterclockwise direction as the GMC continued traveling southwest. The Chevy came to a final rest in the center of the road facing a northeastern direction. The GMC came to a final rest on the western grass shoulder of the road.

Stephens suffered minor injuires. She was cited for failure to maintain a single lane and for not wearing a seatbelt, the release said.

Mickey was taken to Doctor’s Memorial Hospital along with the front seat passenger, 41-year-old Alica Renae Mickey and back seat passenger 13-year-old Sage R. Mickey, who both had minor injuries. A third passenger, 14-year-old Layla R. Waddel, was taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center with minor injuries.
