As Northwest Florida is forecast to be in the 50s this weekend and then soar into the 60s next week, brutally cold conditions are expected to envelop the East Coast most of this weekend.

Staff report

After a week to forget as an arctic blast swept across the country, leaving Northwest Florida under a hard freeze warning and producing snow along the state’s northern Atlantic coast, it’s time to get the sunglasses back out.

Following Saturday night, which is forecast to dip back into the mid-30s, it’s smooth sailing through next week with much more seasonable temperatures.

The National Weather Service has the high temperature forecast for 52 degrees today and 54 degrees on Sunday before climbing into and remaining in the 60s throughout the week.

In the extended forecast, the low each night is in the mid-50s.

Our friends up north, however, are dealing with brutally cold temperatures. But that isn’t our problem, right?

Brutally cold conditions are expected to envelop the East Coast most of this weekend, prompting wind chill warnings from Virginia to Vermont.

Temperatures will reach close to zero from Philadelphia to Boston through Saturday night, with wind chills making it feel like minus-10 degrees to minus-20 degrees. Even more temperate locations won’t escape the cold, with the mercury dipping into the single digits in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., over the weekend — about 20 degrees below normal for this time of year.

The National Weather Service said that temperatures in the Berkshire mountains in western Massachusetts could seem like a frosty minus-35 degrees, parts of New Hampshire and Maine could experience minus-45, and Vermont’s mountain regions could feel like minus-50 degrees.
