Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scammer calling homes and asking for $18,000 for bond.
According to a press release from SRSO, the scam attempt occurred on Feb. 5. During this incident, an unsolicited phone call took place in which the victim was told there was a warrant for their arrest due to non-compliance to a jury duty summons.
The scammer had credible information such as names, addresses and phone numbers of the victim.
The scammer stated he was Officer Miller with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office and that he needed $18,000 for bond. They were also told to obtain Dollar Store gift cards and to remain on the phone the entire time. They were also told to Meet at the Sheriff’s Office.
The victim felt uncomfortable and discontinued the call and contacted the Sheriff’s Office, the release said.
The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind citizens that the department does not solicit funds over the telephone.
