Witness said the Mississippi man was in trouble on a boogie board in the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday afternoon.

DESTIN — An apparent drowning victim pulled from the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday has been identified as 43-year-old Roscoe Brooks of Shannon, Mississippi.
A witness spotted Brooks in trouble on a boogie board around 1:15 p.m. offshore of 2700 Scenic Highway 98 in Destin, according to a press release from Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Destin Beach Safety and a beach attendant rushed to his aid but reported that Brooks was unconscious and unresponsive when they pulled him ashore and began CPR.
Brooks was later pronounced dead at the Destin Emergency Room.
