Safari Club International Artist of the Year, Clint Eagar, will display his masterpiece “Mountain Ram” at the 48th Safari Club Annual Sportsman’s Convention in Reno, Nevada, February 5-8, 2020. You can view “Mountain Ram” at the Clint Eagar Design Booth #3913.
In Clint Eagar’s words: “I was awestruck by how beautifully this bighorn ram was captured in this magnificent shot. This ram is a new world record and scored at 216 3/8”. The image was taken by photographer David Irwin just over a year before this large male died of natural causes. It was a long and rigorous trip where the photographer almost lost his life on the journey. I reached out to him regarding the image and got rights to do the painting. I am currently working on several new works of art using David’s photography of some North American wildlife.”
“This bighorn ram was challenging to do, due to its depth of field and perspective of the shot taken over a mound. You can see the soft touches of the out-of-focus tundra close to you, as the subject is in mid-range of the shot. To create the painting with three levels of depth with the far-off background, also out of focus, shows what great attention to detail was taken to capture the look.”
“The lighting on this image was all important to create with my painting techniques, to make the ram pop off the canvas so to speak and feel alive! The painting highlights the subtle details of all the fur in contrast to the rugged worn tips of the horns after years of use. This was the challenge. The final objective was to capture the depth of the features and curvature of the horns coming right out at you, as though coming right off the canvas. The work is created with acrylic on gesso panel, and the original work is 18” x 24”.”
“I am thrilled to have this piece as part of my portfolio and look forward to creating more challenging and technical big game wildlife pieces.
