Mexico Beach residents will soon have a much-needed convenience – a new grocery store, the first to open since Hurricane Michael. Owner of Mexico Beach Wine & Spirits Marc Rice will launch the store, named The Mexico Beach Market this March. The store will be located on 15th Street next door to the Rice’s liquor store.

Rice was quoted in the Tallahassee Democrat, “This thing just feels like it was why I was put on this earth. I’ve never felt like that about anything before. This is something that the whole community can benefit from. I think it’s going to be a huge plus for the local community and those few tourists and workers that are here.”

The store will be a small store, but Rice is planning to make it as full service as possible. Currently, Mexico Beach residents must drive to either Panama City or Port St. Joe for groceries.

Mexico Beach Mayor Al Cathey was quoted in the Tallahassee Democrat, “I don’t know about the economic impact (that the grocery store will have), but it’ll be just a moral boost to our town. It will be small, and it will be sort of a miniature version, but it’s certainly better than any option that we have right now.”
