Walton County Sheriff’s Office would like to send a special shout out to our friends at Walton County Fire Rescue and DeFuniak Springs Fire Department. On Friday, November 11th both departments responded to a working two story structure fire off Park Avenue in DeFuniak Springs.

The initial crew stretched a line into the home and started extinguishing the fire while Firefighter James Freudenberg and his partner pulled a second line into the structure to do a primary search. As Freudenberg made his way through the house he found himself entering a room in the rear of the home where a dog lay unresponsive on a bed near a window. Freudenberg pulled the dog to the floor and before he and his partner exited the structure the dog became alert and was able to run out of the house on her own.

Firefighters were also able to salvage some personal property along with the family’s Christmas gifts. If this story doesn’t end your weekend the right way we don’t know what will.
