Man pulled into path of car from the Simpson River Recreational Site.

Staff report

A violent collision at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and Simpson River Recreational Site claimed the life of a Santa Rosa County man and left a woman in serious condition late Monday afternoon.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, Charles A. Oliver, 54, of Pace was attempting to cross U.S. 90 from the recreational site in a 1999 Lincoln at the time of the 5:25 p.m. fatal crash.

As the Lincoln pulled across the highway, it traveled directly into the path of a 2003 Cadillac traveling west driven by Eric Kembro, 50, of Pace. The Cadillac struck the left side of the Lincoln.

Oliver was pronounced dead at the scene. Kembro and one passenger, 80-year-old Shirley Kembro, were treated for minor injuries at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola. A second passenger, 57-year-old Margie Kembro, was listed in serious condition at the same hospital.

FHP noted charges are pending.
