MARIANNA — An 8-year-old girl is recovering after a shooting incident in Jackson County on Sunday night.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence off Highway 73 near the Jackson-Calhoun county line early Sunday night after reports of a juvenile being shot, according to a press release. The victim was transported by life flight to a nearby hospital, but was later transferred to Pensacola. She is last known to be in stable condition.
According to the release, preliminary findings indicate that the shooting was accidental and a result of “negligent discharge.” The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have yet been made in the case.
