TAMPA — A female passenger on a casino shuttle boat that was consumed by a huge fire off Florida’s Gulf Coast has died.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as 42-year-old Carrie Dempsey of Lutz.

The mom of two was pronounced dead at 10:42 p.m. Sunday while being treated at Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center.

Tropical Breeze Casino Cruise spokeswoman Beth Fifer said Monday that the company “was deeply saddened” by the death of a 42-year-old woman who was a passenger on the boat when it caught fire off Port Richey on Sunday.

The shuttle boat routinely carries people back and forth from the Tropical Breeze’s offshore casino. It is located offshore because it can’t legally operate close to land.
