FORT WALTON BEACH — The City Council on Tuesday approved the first reading of an ordinance for the voluntary annexation of a church-owned property on Hill Avenue.

The 13.85-acre parcel is at 233 Hill Ave. N.W., just north of the west end of Lovejoy Road. The land is owned by Miramar Beach-based Destiny Worship Center Inc., and currently stands in unincorporated Okaloosa County.

The church’s 7.25-acre property immediately to the south already is in Fort Walton Beach’s limits.

The council also gave initial approval to giving the 13.85-acre tract a future land use designation of civic, institutional and utility, and a zoning category of community facility.

Destiny Worship Center purchased the overall 21.1-acre site from Abundant Life Church last August.

The council could decide at its March 13 meeting whether to give final approval to the annexation and the future land use and zoning categories.
