A Northwest Florida man is hospitalized in serious condition after crashing into a police vehicle early Saturday morning.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, George Joseph Holleran, 61, of Panama City, ran a stop sign on County Road 2314 in Bay County and crashed his 2005 Chevrolet Malibu into a department-owned Ford F150 pickup driven by a Panama City police officer at 12:14 a.m.
With the crash occurring at the intersection with State Road 389, the force of impact sent the Malibu into a concession trailer and picnic table located on the west shoulder of SR 389.
Both drivers were transported to Bay Medical Sacred Heart in Panama City where the officer was treated for minor injuries while Holleran remained hospitalized Sunday morning in serious condition.
The release noted that alcohol was not related to the crash and that Holleran was charged with running a stop sign and not wearing a seatbelt.
FHP did not identify the police officer due to the nature of his work.
