Dogs may be man’s best friend, but it is not always easy to bring your best friend to the beach. On the Forgotten Coast, this is far from true! Our beaches and towns are pet-friendly and bringing your pooch along is encouraged, with proper precaution and consideration of others.

Read on for the top things to do with your beloved pup whether you live on or are just visiting the Forgotten Coast.

  • Fun in the Sun! From St. George Island to St. Joe Beach, our beaches are pet friendly with the exception of state parks. Bring your well-behaved dogs on leashes to romp and relax in the sand with no restrictions on hours or permits required. Make sure to bring bags for any clean-up, which is easy with waste disposal stations available on most beaches.
  • Hit the Trails! Our coast is home to amazing state parks and trail systems open to leashed pets. Try the Port City Trail in Port St. Joe, a four-mile trek that winds throughout the town with convenient stops to locals shops and restaurants that also welcome dogs on leashes. Or go on an off-road adventure in Tate’s Hell State Forest or the Apalachicola National Forest, both with dog-friendly hiking trails through the forest along with other recreation opportunities.
  • Grab a Bite! Many of our local restaurants welcome dogs on leashes whether you are searching for the perfect slice of pizza, fresh local seafood or a juicy burger. Try Hole in the Wall in downtown Apalachicola for some oysters on the half shell, Doc Myers’ Island Pub & Sports Bar on St. George Island for covered outdoor seating and a delicious burger or Krazyfish Grille in Port St. Joe for a locally caught dish in a tropical setting.
