The Coastal Branch Library in Santa Rosa Beach will host the artwork Susan Alfieri during the month of October, 2021. Susan has never lost that beautiful soft accent of her homeland Australia. Susan and her late husband, Donal, a New Yorker, came for summer vacations to this area of Florida for the first time in the early 1970’s. They built “The Last Resort” a rental property and their primary residence, “Billabong,” in 2004. Susan graduated from National Art School and Sydney University, attended every art-related class conceivable. While studying art during the day, Susan studied modern dance with Margaret Barr of Sydney Dance Drama. She finds that in our art world today, association with fellow artists and workshop opportunities are motivation enough but not always taken advantage of!
When asked to describe her style and preferred medium, her response, rediscovering art for art’s sake. Susan rejoices in discovering surprise results with the Vis-à-vis black wet erase pen. Currently sort of stuck in black and white, she threatens to rediscover color! Her favorite subjects to paint are trees and reflections. Susan’s husband referred to them as her ‘tortured trees.”
The Coastal Branch Library is located at 437 Greenway Trail, Santa Rosa Beach. Open Monday – Saturday 10am-5pm. Call 850-267-2809 for more information.
