Walton County EDA, BCC and City of DeFuniak Awarded $482,417 Grant from Federal Department of Commerce

On Wednesday, June 9, 2021, the Walton County Economic Development Alliance (WCEDA) received notice that they have been awarded a $482,417 grant from the Federal Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Agency (FDCEDA) for infrastructure improvements at Walton County’s Northwest Florida Commerce Park at Woodlawn.

The grant application for this project was submitted as a joint effort between the WCEDA, the Walton County Board of County Commissioners (WCBCC) and the City of DeFuniak Springs (DFS).

This grant award, coupled with the WCEDA’s match of $278,467 will be combined to make construction and infrastructure improvements including the installation of water and sewer, and roadway improvements to the Northwest Florida Commerce Park at Woodlawn.

“The awarding of this grant by the Department of Commerce is a sign of the positive economic results that happen when the county, city and local EDA cooperate for the benefit of all of Walton County,” said WCEDA Executive Director Bill Imfeld. “These improvements will facilitate our ability to bring in companies that will offer good paying jobs to the rural areas of our county.”

This property is located on the west side US Highway 331 South adjacent to West Indian Creek Ranch Road in DeFuniak Springs. Currently, the EDA has contracted for property with Flight Level Engineering, B&H Holdings and Fulcrum Truss.

About the Park

The Commerce Park at Woodlawn is 251 acres located on the west side US Highway 331 South adjacent to West Indian Creek Ranch Road in DeFuniak Springs Road. The park is intended for industrial and commercial use. In addition to this grant, the EDA plans to spend about $500,000 on infrastructure leading to the interior parcels of the park. This park offers a highly visible location through the main thoroughfare of Walton County.
