Beloved Baytowne Wharf Seafood Restaurant Expanding to Pensacola

Slick Lips Seafood and Oyster House, a popular, family-friendly seafood restaurant in Baytowne Wharf in the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort recently announced that they will be opening a second location in Pensacola at 102 South Palafox Street. Owned by longtime locals Bryce and Miranda Jarvis along with Captain Gary Jarvis, the original location has been open since 2018. The new location will be located in the Zarzaur Law building complex with plans to offer the same fresh seafood and family-friendly environment as the Baytowne restaurant. The Pensacola location is currently undergoing a complete renovation with new floors, finishes, and a layout to offer plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options as well as a brand-new oyster bar. “We always knew we wanted to be in the downtown area,” Bryce said. “After finding this space, we’ve been working hard every day to get our doors open as soon as possible so guests can come sit, relax, and experience what Slick Lips has to offer in their own neighborhood.” Why the name “Slick Lips”? Chosen from a popular nickname among fisherman for Amberjack who don’t have any teeth, the name Slick Lips pays homage to owner Gary’s long career as a boat captain, and the restaurant’s dedication to offering local, sustainable seafood. Seafood featured on the restaurant’s menu are locally harvested and filleted in-house daily. The Harbor Rats Charitable Foundation, an organization founded on giving back to their community, has chosen Alaqua Animal Refuge as one of their beneficiaries. “As we were looking to expand our reach and choose another charity to add as a beneficiary, Alaqua was a clear and unanimous choice” said Marvin Holthouser, chairman of the Harbor Rats Board of Directors. The Harbor Rats Charitable Foundation started with a group of local businessmen who met at Harbor Cigars in Destin for fellowship and decided to positively impact the community in which they lived. Harbor Cigars, owned by Holthouser, has been the gathering spot ever since. Established by a handful of his customers, the Harbor Rats group now has approximately 125 members and six board members. Harbor Rats hosts a variety of charity events and an annual golf tournament to raise funds and are looking forward to hosting a joint event for Alaqua in the future. The Harbor Rats Board of Directors recently visited Alaqua for a grand tour of the new facility and presented a $10,000 check to the organization in support of past and future efforts. The Harbor Rats believe that ‘giving back makes us all better,’ stating that any opportunity to leverage the many talents and resources of the group towards improving lives in the community is their goal. Triumph Gulf Coast discusses projects, priorities, and goals

TRIUMPH BOARD (Photo from Susan Skelton, Triumph Gulf Coast) By RUBY KEARCE  The Triumph Gulf Coast Board met for a workshop in the Walton County Commission Chambers in Freeport on Wednesday, Nov 2.  Pamella Dana, Ph. D, one of the original Triumph Gulf Coast Board members who served from 2013 to 2021, served as Vice Chair in 2020, and was a crucial part of laying the groundwork for the Triumph Gulf Coast Board, was asked to relay a brief history of the Triumph Gulf Coast Board.   She reported that The BP Oil spill occurred in 2010, tainting gulf waters and staining beaches, leading to a decline in tourism, restaurant patronage and hotel stays, as well as being harmful to marine life. Keeping in mind that economic strategy and goals can look different from county to county, between 2013 and 2017 the board held a number... Read More
