Caring & Sharing of South Walton and Walton County Sheriff’s Office Hold Diaper Drive

National Diaper Need Awareness Week, September 18-24th Caring & Sharing along with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office will hold its Second Annual Diaper Drive, sponsored by Specialty Roofers, from September 18 – October 6th. Their goal is to collect a six-month supply of diapers for the community in recognition of National Diaper Need Awareness Week. “We currently provide over 100 local families with diapers and wipes each month while they are picking up food from our food pantry,” said Caring & Sharing Executive Director, Carly Barnes. “The requests for diapers and wipes often exceed our supplies. Our Annual Diaper Drive helps us engage our generous community to increase the amount of diapers and wipes we have on hand and ultimately help us better serve our clients.” Here’s how the community can help Caring and Sharing achieve this year’s goal: First, Walton County Sheriff’s Office will participate by hosting their own “Pack the Patrol Car” as they invite the community to donate and drop off diapers (sizes 4, 5 and 6 most needed) between September 18-24th at their administrative office on 133 Sheriff Drive in Santa Rosa Beach. Next, diapers can be dropped off at Caring & Sharing and other participating locations during the same time frame. Participating drop off locations include: Specialty Roofers, Palm Folly, La Luna Children’s Boutique, Christ the King Episcopal Church, The Tree House Episcopal Montessori School, Point Washington United Methodist Church and Preschool, South Walton Seahawks, The Rosemary Beach Foundation and Rosemary Beach Cottage Rental Agency.... ELECTRICAL FIRE BREAKS OUT IN MOBILE HOME; FIREFIGHTERS QUICKLY EXTINGUISH FLAMES

Firefighters rush to a home in Mossy Head after a neighbor reported seeing smoke and flames coming from a nearby residence.   At 10:37 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023, Walton County Fire Rescue, DeFuniak Springs Fire Department, Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, Argyle Volunteer Fire Department, and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a home on Laird Road following a 911 call from a resident stating they heard explosions and could see flames coming from a neighboring mobile home. The caller also said both residents of the home made it out of the house safely, but they believed some of their neighbors’ pets were still inside the home.   Firefighters arrived on scene six minutes later and found flames coming from the back of a single-wide mobile home. Walton County Fire Rescue crews immediately made entry into the residence and began battling the blaze.   Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies shut down Laird Road while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames. With help from assisting fire departments, Walton County Fire Rescue crews put out the fire just in thirty minutes.   Several pets made it out of the residence safely, but, unfortunately, one cat and dog were later found deceased inside the house.   The fire was caused by an electrical issue inside the mobile home. American Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents of the damaged home.   https://waltonso.org/news/feed/ Read More

OKALOOSA ACADEMY TEACHER ARRESTED FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A FIREARM FOLLOWING ROAD RAGE INCIDENT

WALTON COUNTY, FLA— An Okaloosa County teacher is arrested following a road rage incident where he pulled a weapon on a teenager. On August 2nd, Brandon Greggory Crumbley, 36, was involved in a road rage incident where he brake-checked a car driven by a 16-year-old. A short time later, Crumbley was parking his vehicle at his apartment complex when the victim drove by rolling down his window and words were exchanged. As the driver passed by, he told deputies Crumbley lifted his shirt revealing a firearm. The driver never stopped the vehicle and drove past Crumbley. During the investigation, Crumbley lied to investigators, telling him he never removed the weapon from the holster and did not use it in a threatening manner. After deputies reviewed surveillance video, it was found Crumbley not only lied but appeared to taunt the victim with the weapon. As the vehicle was seen leaving the area, Crumbley is seen holding the gun over his head pointing it at the victim’s car and then towards the sky as if to wave him back towards him. A warrant was submitted for Crumbley’s arrest, and he was located Thursday, August 31st by the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force at his home on Hammock Trail East in Freeport and taken into custody. Crumbley is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, improper display of a firearm, and obstruction. Alaqua Animal Refuge Rescues 32 Animals from Life-Threatening Conditions, Owner Arrested

Urgent Response Leads to Legal Consequences In a critical and deeply unsettling animal rescue operation, Alaqua Animal Refuge, led by founder Laurie Hood, intervened in a life-threatening situation involving dozens of animals. The effort was coordinated in partnership with Deputy Sheriff Greg Barton of Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Florida, and Washington County Animal Control. Owner Faces Criminal Charges The owner of these distressed animals was arrested and is currently facing four 3rd degree felony charges and 30 1st degree misdemeanors. All animals were legally transferred to Alaqua Animal Refuge for immediate treatment and future adoption. Horrific Conditions Demand Immediate Action Amidst a heatwave, with heat index soaring above 110 degrees, the team discovered animals trapped in a trailer without electricity, water, or adequate food. The conditions were beyond deplorable—filled with trash, debris, and life-threatening holes in the flooring. No Animal Left Behind “I originally planned to assess the situation and try to find placement for these animals, as we are always at full capacity,” said Laurie Hood, Alaqua Founder. “However, once I witnessed the dire conditions, leaving any animal behind was not an option.” A Grim Race Against Time The situation was so extreme that some animals were found deceased. Many of the remaining dogs, puppies, and exotic birds were skittish, many requiring tranquilization for safe removal. A miniature horse that was struggling to live when found, despite around-the-clock care, had to be humanely euthanized. Ongoing Care for Surviving Animals Alaqua is now caring for a... Read More
