Florida Will Soon Be A Constitutional Carry State
What is the Benefit of Obtaining or Renewing A Concealed Weapons License? While Florida is a constitutional carry state as of July 1st, there are still a couple of benefits for Floridians who choose to obtain a concealed weapons license. Florida House Bill 543 signed into law by Governor DeSantis on April 3, 2023, removes the requirement for having a concealed firearm license to carry a concealed firearm in Florida. However, the criteria for being eligible to carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm without a license in Florida did not change. The criteria for eligibility are outlined in Section 790.06, F.S., the only change is there is no longer a requirement to complete training or pay a licensing fee. Additionally, HB 543 did not make any changes to the list of prohibited places to carry. You can find the list of prohibited places in Section 790.06(12), F.S. For those eligible to carry a concealed weapon, there are a couple of benefits for applying for or renewing a Concealed Weapon License: – The three-day waiting period for purchasing a firearm in Florida does not apply to Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License holders. This is due to a background check having already been conducted for license holders. – Florida Concealed Weapon License Holders can conceal carry in the states who reciprocate with Florida, based on each state’s specific reciprocity agreement.
