Sinfonia Gulf Coast Presents Holiday Pops Featuring The Doo Wop Project, Dec. 9

Stars from the Broadway hits Jersey Boys, Motown: The Musical, and A Bronx Tale recreate the greatest music in American pop and rock history Ready for some “harmony” this holiday season? Sinfonia Gulf Coast presents Holiday Pops Featuring the Doo Wop Project on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center in Destin. The Doo Wop Project begins at the beginning: tracing the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic sound of five guys singing harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today. In their epic shows The Doo Wop Project takes audiences on a journey featuring foundational tunes from the Crests, Belmonts, and Flamingos through the vocal artistry of Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and The Four Seasons all the way to “DooWopified” versions of modern hits from Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz, Maroon 5 and Sam Smith. Featuring stars from the Broadway hits Jersey Boys, Motown: The Musical, and A Bronx Tale, The Doo Wop Project brings unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence to recreate — and in some cases entirely reimagine — the greatest music in American pop and rock history. The Doo Wop Project boys are sure to put everyone into the holiday spirit. Hear old school Holiday classics like The Drifters’ White Christmas, The Temptations’ Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons’ version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town along with “DooWopified” contemporary hits like This Christmas and Last Christmas. “Doo Wop... Alaqua Animal Refuge Announces New Executive Director

Alaqua Animal Refuge, the Southeast’s premier non-profit animal shelter and sanctuary, has named Paul Arthur as its new Executive Director. The organization did not have to look too far from home as Arthur has been embedded in the local community for years and has a breadth of valuable experience and perspective to lend. He takes the helm of the growing non-profit at a crucial time in its 15-year history as the organization gets set to open back up to the public in March 2023, after being closed due to continuous construction and supply chain delays on their new property. “I am beyond thrilled to share this news,” said Laurie Hood, Alaqua’s founder and president. “We are very blessed to have Paul join our team. In just a few short weeks, he has already proved to be an incredible asset, sharing his energy, creativity, and fantastic leadership style with us!” Alaqua Founder Laurie Hood stated that Alaqua had quietly been looking for someone to fill the executive director gap, and that the light bulb just went off one day. She indicated that Arthur had the same values and goals in his life that “just meshed well” with Alaqua and herself, and she asked him one day if he would be interested in joining the team in some capacity. Arthur comes to Alaqua after spending 12 years at the E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center in many roles, with the last 10 years as president and director. “I’ve known Laurie for 12 years and... Read More

Heroes Against Hunger Food Drive through November 18

The South Walton Fire District is asking for the community’s help in fighting hunger ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday by hosting the first SWFD Heroes Against Hunger Food Drive. Northwest Florida residents can bring nonperishable and/or canned food items to any of the five SWFD fire station locations through November 18, during the hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Bins have been placed at each fire station for drop-off. All food items collected will be donated to local charities. “For this first annual Food Drive, we’re hopeful our community members will step up as they always do,” said SWFD Fire Chief Ryan Crawford. “Their generosity is unprecedented, not only in how they treat their local first responders, but also in how they give back to others in need. You do not have to be a South Walton resident to participate in this, just someone who wants to make a difference alongside us.” Anyone with questions about the Food Drive is encouraged to contact SWFD at 850-267-1298 or via email at info@swfd.org.   (0) Heroes Against Hunger Food Drive through November 18 30a Television | South Walton Fire District | November 7, 2022 12:56 pm   #30atv #30a Read More
